SiriusXM aired a special on ALW's career earlier this month; in the
special, he talks about how JCS was really meant to be more of a rock-opera

book scenes and the show essentially lurches from song to song in a

I finally got around to finding the original album on Spotify. For some
reason it's a playlist. It simply doesn't compare to the Legend/NBC
version. NBC had top Broadway performing talent in all the roles while the
album was Warner Brothers talent. The backing music for the album was
probably a
Oh, good. Wrong singer. Only an mp3 exists.

wondered if using his name would attract so much attention.
I just found a video of him singing the song, looked like at a concert, not
a clip from a full performance

It's not supposed to be on social media, so I wonder how you found it? (I
couldn't although I did see Merle's explanation of its existence).
"HWCNBN" has become a tradition of this list, dating back to the filming of

NBC appears to be offering it on their site w/o login. (Unless I'm missing
something.)

fyi that magent link worked for me. the vertical resolution is not
720p, but the show is sufficient for me. I've added it to my plex server
and will sync to mobile when I get on to decent wifi (currently in St.
Johns NL this week).

if anyone finds a Betamax copy online of JCS (NBC version) from
1-April-2018, please give me a direct email. I'd like to watch the whole
thing.
Thoughts from the past 24 hours:

NBC is promoting it for free on its app.
I checked in and out of this one, which is more than I can say for any of the

HWCNBN's version of Gethsemane is the most stunning version of the song
ever recorded.
Unfortunately, I can't share it on a message board!

I have had a couple of friendly but passionate debates the Gethsemane
number already this morning. Couple of things about that:
1. I liked Legend’s performance on every other number better than Neeley’s.
On this one, I would give the nod to Neeley even though I preferred how

I had a few quibbles - the vocal mix early on was poor, making it hard to
decipher the lyrics, but was fixed by the second hour; John Legend wasn't
quite up to the vocal demands of "Gethsemane," but worked his way around it
with phrasing; and the cheering of the crowd at inopportune moments was
I watched the first 15 minutes and then had to do something else. I'll try
to find it online later.
The live tweets from legend's wife are quite the thing.

This was bugging me enough I went back and watched parts of it again. I
guess the dancers are not singing at all, and it looks like there are some
background singers near the band who are singing the chorus. But either
they needed a big group, or the mix was off a little.

Bravo NBC! This is how you do a broadway musical on television. Everyone
and everything about this production was really good. Legend was the
perfect choice and was amazing - but the other main players were great too.
Bareilles’s voice was pure. Dixon was outstanding. I loved too the way they

I wrote a piece of dark (very dark) comedy about this jackass back in
2006. Aside from what specifically Robertson was being an idiot about
(in 2006, he'd denounced Israel), the writing still seems to resonate.
It was entitled Pat Robertson Must Die (like I said, dark comedy):
