slightly different refresh rates, despite the fact that I set both to
60hz. If you can set your monitors to the same refresh rate exactly,

So, right after posting this, I rebooted the machine. After that I did
use tty1 to login as croessner. I _could_ login to my machine.
After that I used gdm to login into Gnome, opened a terminal and it

ubuntu 8.10 says my version of nvidia-glx-180 is 180.11 not 180.29. I installed
it 2 weeks ago with apt-get install nvidia-glx-180. Are you sure that 180.29
is in repositories? If so, shouldn't I be able to update it to 180.29 via
apt-get

I have all the updates on Jaunty.
I use gnome.
When Compiz is enabled, kmail will still not refresh the all window, and I can
see part of the screen divided vertically.
It is happening much less then before (even less today, then yesterday (not
sure if any packages changed)).

After the fault, the system was unusable (X never came back up and the
text consoles were corrupted) and had to be rebooted.

The wiki page states that any system fails to use a proper size for the fonts,
should be reported to allow it to be fix(by means of a quirk, I would guess) so
that users of the stable release will not face the same issue as I did.
