to fixing the problem in tar itself, as traditional
usage frequently relies upon this behavior, I don't see why we couldn't
make the experience of using tar interactively a little safer, by
providing a default alias for tar in /etc/skel/.bashrc that backs-up
existing files.

My .xsession-errors is totally, utterly spammed out with crap from
Evolution and co. :(

I have no idea how to reproduce this, it just happened once. How often
do the coredumps not allow you to get a backtrace? :(

Unlock screen to find that I've been disconnected then subsequently reconnected
That's it.
I did it a second time, and some yellow notification popped up to say
that HAL failed to hibernate see the help
Nautilus' places sidebar.

I don't think that will really be useful, but if you insist I can do
something like that (be more specific though, as I'm not really sure
what you mean.)
