I now tried installing the same image but instead of selecting an entire disk
install I selected manual partitioning.
Booting stalled on the same place.
Unfortunatly I cannot use the keyboard so I cannot attach logs.
If there is another way to do it please let me know.

Appications lense, searched for testdrive, clicked

I have tested the Nvidia-current 304.51.really.304.43- amd64 driver on Ubuntu
Quantal and up to kernel 3.5.0.19 they did not work, they started working on
kernel 3.5.0.21 and 3.5.0.22.
I will now test them on Ubuntu Precise and let you know, I just have to
re-install Precise to try
Sometimes you cannot even change partition size by entering the numbers with
the keyboard, you have to click on the plus and minus buttons to change
partition dimension.

I had to install nvidia-experimental-304 drivers to get my 1440x900 resolution

I created a live non persistent USB key with Unetbootin.
When booting my PC from this live USB key into a live session with the above
image and also with Precise

Hello Joseph,
I am having the same exact problem with Precise 12.10.1 the one you downloaded
from www.ubuntu.com.
When I found that I had the problem with Precise, I downloaded Raring's daily
ISO to see if the problem was still there, and so it was.
I have not tried out any other versions up to
Joseph, forgive me I am wrong 12.10.1 is Quantal not Preicse, sorry I made a
big mess.
I was talking about Ubuntu's last version 12.10.1 Quantal Quetzal.

kernel oops during boot of Raring and Precise with live USB and after
logon
Other thing to say: this is a new PC and the versions that I tried
(12.04.1, 12.10.1 and 13.04) are first installations, so there is no
version on which we did not have this issue.

If I boot from a live USB and add the parameter radeon.nomodeset=0 or
radeon.nomodeset=1 then there is no kernel oops, but the screen
resolution is completly wrong and probably the monitor type is not even
detected.

I use shutdown -r now.
I'm used to UNIX, so I got this habit, in SCO UNIX it used to be shutdown
