I'm having the same issue. Specifically on google. Here is what my
homepage looks like in google. On other sites the graphics display fine.

I recently found out that this might not be because of a kernel update but
because of certain I did around a week ago. I disabled laptop-hotkeys at
start-up using sysv-rc-conf and actually then the lid action started working.

I have an E520 too, and I get a slow fadeout when I'm listening to my
speakers and plug in my headphones. Reloading alsa works tho, thanks

Xfce4-battery-plugin does not use HAL (it only reads /sys or /proc manually).
If you still have this issue, could you provide /sys/class/power_supply/BAT*/*
and /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*/*?

My understanding is that this bug is caused by libdrm-intel1, which comes from
an upstream git snapshot. Presumably, this problem is a known issue and will
be fixed by upstream.
However, if this happens to anyone with a non-Intel graphics chipset, make a
note of that in this bug.

For what it's worth, I recently used Kdenlive under Sid for a project,
and it was simply brilliant. However, it did crash a lot, so I had to be
paranoid and save constantly, though I can't tell if this was because of
something in Sid or just because the new Kdenlive is unstable.

I am not sure if this helps, but maybe it works with the radeon driver, or
radeonhd driver, and if that is the case we already know, that it's a bug in
fglrx.
If you use Intrepid the radeonhd version will be too old, so you would have to
build, but that not so hard:
