In your application, you choose to separate the background image
selection in two parts: first selecting a directory and then selecting
the file. The directory selection does not make any change, only the
file selection does.
This is IMHO confusing, particularly when

Since the upgrade to 16.04, when recording flux from my Freebox, VLC is
using about 80 - 120 % of CPU (2 cores) and generates a save file of 10

me why) even though it is not written in its file in
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/.

prevent the default language from the session manager to be English...
