since the netbook interface popped up. This go around (12.04) I knew
roughly what to look for.
This interface is not discoverable and is so very very hard to use.
Ironically the kde desktop also uses screen space more effective

inflammatory. politely: I was very very very frustrated trying to do
basic tasks from the livecd on a netbook.

ARG, this bug website ate all that I wrote...
Knoppix uses microknoppix miniroot.gz, I expanded it and found that in it's
init it has a loop and searches for bootable material.
Ubuntu's initrd init has an option to take UUID for selecting root.
Now if I can only get what UUID SYSLINUX is ru
I can't tell if the problem is in the initrd, or in syslinux...
I was able to boot from my ONLY hard drive...
it came up as 0x81
So there is a problem with the dell laptop doing something not standard
by reporting 0x80 as the device it boots from, regardless of if it is
removable or not.

program should warn people to gather their wep keys and other network
authentication because it will be lost in the upgrade.

to 9.04, as this locked me out of my network because I didn't know the
wep key to look for help... and I actually looked for a plasmoid
instictively.. found it and it didn't work.

is why I did not give Kubuntu as my annual X-mas CD... I gave an old

One of the many problems I had was that apt-index-watcher hung up the
