have the same problem.
Many times hitting "Send / Receive" ends up with a dialog that never

from precise-proposed on a Dell Precision T1650 with Xeon E3-1225 V2
CPU P4000 integrated graphics.

I had also tried the 'touch /sbin/udevadm.upgrade' workaround, and it
failed to work. However, instead of deleting the '--convert-db' line in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/udev.postinst, I changed it from:
udevadm info --convert-db
to:
udevadm.upgrade info --convert-db
This let the install finish

Incidentally, I made a new install on another partition, this time from
the release version of 11.10, and on that I can open a guest session
without a problem (just to be clear, the terminal output is from the old
install).

To reproduce this bug:
1.Bring up the Dash.
2. Test it is working by searching for a program, e.g. "app" for Appearance.
3. Close and open the Dash again, then select "More Apps".
4. Select "Filter Results".

all windows whenever I opened it. Immediately before the error, I was
unmounting a USB drive through its launcher menu. The launcher
disappeared, but the menu remained, and the system became unresponsive

obvious symptoms I can see, other than apport reporting it. Some

This happened to me yesterday in kubuntu 10.04. Resolved it with
service network-manager stop
rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
service network-manager start
This is nasty - if you can't get a network connection up manually and
don't have any other web access, it's very difficult
I was going to file a bug about appmenu not working with programs
launched as another user (not necessarily root) with gksu. Would I be
right in thinking that solving this current bug would solve that?

Happening to me too on a Dell Inspiron 9400 - kio_audiocd uses close to
100% cpu and never does anything useful. cdparanoia seems to work OK.
Kubuntu 6.06 with all updates to 12 Dec 2006.
While I get the sg_write kernel messages (from both cdparanoia and
kio_audiocd), it looks like there is a memo
