Yes, Ubuntu One is the only application that fails with SSL errors,
although I get sporadic warnings in pidgin while connecting to msn.
The command update-ca-certificates yielded no results, and wget also
fails with SSL error.
I'm attaching the files requested. Thanks for the attention.
I upgraded this box to Lucid beta today, and still get the same error.
UbuntuOne client is unusable in this desktop, although I can use it
normally in my laptop and workstation.

Chuck, did you see the upstream comment? I don't know exactly what the
option suggested means, but it seems like a matter of configuration.

this looks like a papercut to me.

(2.6.28-11-generic). Actually not really black, but more like a purple
tone.
I tried unloading it, and tried the instructions in comment 51, but got
no image in cheese. Running cheese from command line returns the

AFAICT, the only key that's different in this variant is the
slash/question, that in the default variant is the right Ctrl.
Although the "thinkpad" variant doesn't show in the menu, the following
command activates the

I think I found out how to work around this issue. Since an empty test
account didn't show the behaviour, I decided moving my dirs and files

For the record, TJ also gave me more tips on IRC:
since it looks like a conflict between the onboard video adapter (intel)
and the external pci-e adapter (nvidia), check for BIOS video
configuration. I found it, and it was checked to "auto".
After reset BIOS to factory defaults, I chose the PCI-e
Also, not only /var didn't get mounted, all non-root filesystems didn't.
This includes /home (also lvm) and /boot (non-lvm). I'm guessing this is
because of script crashes in the init process due to the bug.

It would help if someone (Sebastian?) could confirm if this

A new symptom appeared, and gave me the hint to work around the problem
well enough in order to boot the system: The nvidia card failed to be
recognized temporarily, forcing me to plug the monitor into the onboard
video output (intel motherboard, i810 video driver).
When I removed the nvidia video
I can't boot 2.6.18-4 anymore. Don't know why, I haven't changed
anything, software nor hardware.

I turned on the option to beep if problem occurs, and got a beep this
morning, with the new version, so it seems it's not fixed for me, also.
