At the moment - U12.04 current - simplescan works with hp scanjet 3670
better than in Windows (faster) and quality is better. In last half a
year updates were disrupting scanner function but after one before last
started to work again.
I did not do anything special myself.

First I woke up the computer, I updated system using terminal (apt-get
update+apt-get upgrade). Restart. Log in. Crashed. Report.
Otherwise - no problems. Crushing daemon did not crush the system.

Sorry to bother you again. My scanner works occasionally. It does work
in countless other distributions (50% of them to be precise). In Ubuntu
12.04 it works sometimes, most of the time in fresh install of Lubuntu
and Xubuntu, before they are updated...

I was very happy that all parts of hardware were working after I
installed U12.04 LTS alpha... until I was using kernel 3.2.0-9 or
before, scanner worked, amd64 Unity etc. Than after few updates, kernel
version up to 3.2.0-10 and higher, system stopped seeing the scanner.

I have abandoned U11.10. I installed U12.04. So far so good. It works in
spite of continuous updates and scanner is even shown in the colour
calibration program together with webcam ;-)

it works in Mint 11, Ubuntu 11.04, Xubuntu 11.10, most of the time only
to the updates and software installation. Sorry I don't know which
software to blame. In Ubuntu 11.10 (Unity 3D and linux 3.0.0.13) does
not work...

I have no idea. It worked until I updated Xubuntu 11.10 and some
programs like for example skype were installed. Than it stopped finding
scanner. I checked all the buntus and only X11.10AMD64 had scanner
working for some time but

did not (AMD64) - I did not check the 32 bit
