Hi, my comp was dying intermittently. White flashing lines after running
smoothly. I found a thread that had this fix:
go to System, Administration, Synaptic Package Manager.
once you give it you password, look for grub.
in Ubuntu 10.04 i think it installs grub-pc automatically.
choose grub

also, let me add my daemon output was the same as Rkimber

If your not needing any more information, I think I will remove the
backport modules and cope with
the alternate module loading for a while.

I think I fixed the problem of the repeating message that appears in dmesg tail

I am using kernel 2.6.31-16-generic.
I blacklisted ath5k and ath9k then listed ath5k in
/etc/modules.

I have the same problem as initially described, however I noticed that
my Fn-F7 key works (did not work in previous Ubuntu releases) so this
issue is currently solved for me. I hope this helps some of you as a
temporary solution.
