Additional info. : may I suggest that possibly this is due to not having a full
RAID card but using the on board RAID of my motherboard. PC is an Acer T180.

Ubiquity crashes in my system (Core i7 920 + Gigabyte EX58-Extreme
[ICH10R] + Seagate 500Gb 7200.12 x2 [Raid0]).
To load the Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD/DVD I must hit F6 at boot menu and add

Using a 8.10 Live CD, I booted up Xubuntu and installed dmraid. I went
to manual, and tried to install to two partitions (/ and swap) on my

I had this problem on a multi-boot system (Vista, XP, Intrepid (old),
Intrepid (new)), and managed to resolve it easily enough. Here's my
drive history:
The first time I installed Intrepid, it was on a multi-boot system,
installed on the same physical drive as Windows XP (call it drive B).
Then I

CD.
I used one partition for / every time, with the Reiser File System.
Every time I allow GRUB to be installed to (hd0) everything works fine.
Every time I select to have GRUB installed to /dev/sda2, ( I want to chainlo

configuration.
Grub installs fine, and all my systems are properly detected and bootable (Win

was not impressed by reiserfs.
However, I worked around this problem by doing the following: In VMware
(under Win XP), I installed Ubuntu 8.10 x64 in a virtual machine. Then I
copied the initrd.img file to the host

partition being back-level," because I install GRUB into the root
partition that I'm creating. I even install the GRUB boot loader

I just download 8.10 (i386) and I cannot install it on a clean system. I
tried twice and in both cases the installer crashed while trying to
install the grub.
I can't believe this is happening, I was not expecting this bug on a
final release.

I reformatted the target partition with 128 byte inodes and ran the
installation again from the intrepid desktop CD, using manual
partitioning but preventing the root partition from being formatted
