The only thing that could cause keyboard freezing is the high mid-spring
temperature. No recent software or hardware updates.

I've fixed it for my laptop with compressed air.
I've seen hpet message too. And my laptop would become very slow. I
even measured this slow down. It was alway about x10 times slower or x60
slower. Surprisingly it was still very usable with x10. These
slowdowns were random and intermittent.
I think in my case the freeze was related to some troubles with the wifi card.
I installed wicd instead of network manager and I no more freezes since

Just in case it helps, I've been running ubuntu 9.10 32 bits with pae
support (I have 4G of RAM) for more than a mounth without lockups. As
K1T suggested, deactivating acpi helped but I didn't like the idea of
not beeing able to see the temperature of the laptop while working
with it.

Tried clocksource=jiffies, after splash screen, screen black nothing
happens. Kernel don't seem to load (Strange that it works in other AMILO

i have the same issue here on a Dell Precision M4400 with Karmic 32Bit.
After watching a film for about +- 1 hour the system slows down so that
i have to reboot. I tried also with Fedora Core 11 and there is the same
problem so i think this is a kernel related bug.

I can confirm this problem on Karmic. After a while playing videos they start
to lock up. I'm running an up to date Karmic with x-updates ppa. I have a Intel
GM965 graphics card, usually used in extened desktop setup (VGA LVDS as one
big desktop).

* clocksource=jiffies caused X to refuse to start

You can add my machine too - noapic seems to put it right, as far as
I've tested. Lenovo W700, Jaunty. Also happens with Fedora 11 pre-
release. I'd guess it's also related to this outstanding kernel bug,

An update on my particular situation, hopefully this helps others... I
downgraded my Nvidia module to 173, and haven't had a lockup since. Nor

I am also getting these messages, albeit on an Arch Linux 64-bit install. My
hardware is a MacbookPro3,1 and my nvidia driver version is 177.82. I just
installed a couple days ago and can't definitively associate my symptoms with

I am also having this issue. I don't have any dmesg results to post
yet. I have not let the machine sit long enough when it does this to
realize it was actually doing something.
It has done this since I switched to intrepid about a month ago (during
the beta). With the final release and the
Happened to me again... However, it never came back, but I was able to
ssh into the machine remotely and run a dmesg. Doesn't appear to be any
messages. The keyboard is completely locked out, but the mouse works.
This is rather annoying, 4th time today it has done this.

I assume this is still an issue with the most recent 2.6.27-4 kernel?
If so, could you try booting without the clocksource=jiffies, trigger
the lock ups, and then capture dmesg output and attach it to this bug
report? Just curious what messages might be getting logged. Thanks.
