I've seen similar issue by visiting http://www.pragprog.com/ in Firefox
3, except I'm seeing 100% on X, which locks up the entire gnome
environment for 20 seconds at a go. How firefox is locking up X, I have
no idea. Visiting the same site in Konqueror doesn't lock up X.

both running 8.04 and patched up to date. When I insert a blank dvd or cd
nothing happens. If I try and burn using Brasero for e.g. it reports no disc

Restarting NTP more than once at the same time leaves ntpd in a broken
state where it will not set system time but is still running.
Now the ntpdate package stops ntpd, runs ntpdate, then restarts ntpd everytime
an interface mentioned in /etc/network/interfaces comes up
I have spent the last 24 hours trying to resolve this issue. What I now
know is that the new kernel no longer recognises some wireless cards and
drivers that were fine in Gutsy. So it seems that the alternatives are
to implement a workaround or to install a new compatible wireless card.

Ok, this goes now to wfm/wtf territory.
What I did was a clean reinstall of Gutsy. After reinstall the machine
booted just fine 2-3 times and then the bug appeared again - initramfs
failed to mount the root partition.
I now proceeded to do a clean reinstall of Gutsy *and wiped all the
partitions
I've experienced the same problem and have tried all the tips above but no
success. I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 x64 bits on and the provided Eclipse 3.2.2.
I was playing around with the provided ANT eclipse plug-in
org.apache.ant_1.7.0.v200706080842 and the separate provided ANT 1.7.0 but with

It all started the other day when I tried to make GDM show in a higher
resolution. I tried doing xrandr ---output LDMS --auto --output TDMS-1

A workaround seems to be:

For completeness, here's the error message text that is presented when
the user tries to run any Java-based add-on while the path to JRE is
stale:
OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform
this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version
or install
Also, during OpenOffice startup there's a single error message on
standard output (or standard error - I didn't check that) when the path
in $HOME/.openoffice.org2/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml is
wrong:
javaldx failed!

By the way I'm running stable Hardy 8.04 which was a clean install of a
pre-release that I've kept up to date. Hope it's all fixed by default in
