[Bug 219662] [NEW] Hardy - No network connectivity on fresh install

2008-10-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

It seems that on fresh installs (in this test-case context, a eeePC), a DHCP
lease is not pulled. This is with a daily-build from yesterday.
If a DHCP lease is managed to be pulled, DNS fails to resolve shortly
thereafter.

Will include output of lspci and lsmod when I am able to.

Please advise to any additional info needed.

[Bug 287420] [NEW] likewise winbindd dumps core on startup

2008-10-22 Thread Peter Frost
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open

This bug seems similar to a couple of others but the behaviour's not
quite the same. The startup script appears to execute successfully
during boot and there are no obvious errors from lwinet, but a core is
dumped in /var/log/likewise-open/cores/winbindd and I cannot log on to
our domain (Konsole displays a dialogue box which simply says Error,
with no further details) until I do sudo /etc/init.d/likewise-open
restart. This happens upon every boot.

[Bug 287126] Re: /var/lib/tomcat6/temp not writable by tomcat

2008-10-22 Thread Thierry Carrez
Steve:
I replicated what was done on Tomcat 5.5 packages but I agree Tomcat should
certainly use something more appropriate for $CATALINA_BASE/temp. Tomcat in
general doesn't play well with FHS as it expects to find everything in a single
directory. However, as is done for the $CATALINA_BASE/conf or
$CATALINA_BASE/work files, we could certainly symlink /var/lib/tomcat6/temp
to something more FHS-compliant.

Will track that on bug 287452, as they are related.

Shouldn't tomcat be using something other than /var/lib for a temp directory?
This is an FHS violation, and is inconsistent with things like backup policies
that try to avoid temp files.

Rather than cleaning up a static directory at each restart, creating
(safely) a /tmp/tomcat. and setting it as the jvm TMPDIR at each
restart might be cleaner.

[Bug 287736] [NEW] package libapache2-mod-php5 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3 failed to install during upgrade from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04LTS (thru the update manager)

Public bug reported:

through the Update Manager. This all occurred during the end of the
upgrade where all of the PHP/PEAR packages I had installed previously

I expected it to upgrade seamlessly. Instead, I´m not sure if I´ll have

got hosed in the process which I´ll spend a gajillion hours trying to
troubleshoot).

[Bug 227848] Re: boot order wrong for iscsi

2008-10-22 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Suggestion of text for the Intrepid release note (from Etienne Goyer):

File systems hosted on iSCSI targets may not be mounted automatically at
boot time, even if they have an entry in /etc/fstab, if a bridged or
bonded Ethernet interface is required to reach the iSCSI target. As a
work-around, you would have to restart the open-iscsi service and
manually mount the file system in question after system boot, once the
required network interface have been brought up. Systems equipped with
a plain Ethernet interface are not affected.

[Bug 287374] [NEW] [Intrepid] Suspend fails when telling pm-utils to use uswsusp

2008-10-22 Thread hyperair
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

After setting SLEEP_MODULE in /etc/pm/config.d/00sleep_module to
uswsusp, suspend becomes impossible. This is a regression, because in
Hardy, suspend was possible even when uswsusp was chosen as the suspend
method.

The reason for this bug is that the uswsusp code in pm-utils tries to
use s2ram to suspend, which does not exist, because its build was
disabled (see Bug #134238). In previous versions, pm-utils fell back
onto the kernel method when it could not find s2ram. This bug appeared
in Bug #267141 when pm-utils auto-detected uswsusp and used it instead
of the kernel method. The resolution for Bug #267141 in a patch provided
by James Westby was to remove the auto-detection code completely, but
that does not fix the issue I have highlighted.

And finally, there are two possible fixes (which I can see) for this:
1. Patch /usr/lib/pm-utils/module.d/uswsusp to fall back on kernel for
check_suspend and do_suspend (The attached patch will do just that)
2. Re-enable the s2ram build in uswsusp

[Bug 281950] Re: KDE Cannot start from kdm or gdm

2008-10-22 Thread Richard Birnie
I can also confirm this bug. Upgrade test from Hardy KDE4 remix to
intrepid. This was a VM which had only the default Hardy KDE4 package
set installed. I launched the upgrade with the command kdesudo
'adept_manager --dist-upgrade-devel'

Once the upgrade completed I restarted and tried to log in. I observed
the same symptoms reported by Celeste. The cause seems to be that no
Session type is selected by default. The work around is to click the
'Session type' menu at the bottom of the log in screen and choose KDE.
Choosing Default (previous) does not work. If KDE is chosen the system
logs in as normal.

is now with /usr/bin/top . You can repeat the same operation with that
file.

Do you remember of a particular operation / installation you've done ?

[Bug 132226] Re: please apply xml-optimizations to speed up the desktop

2008-10-22 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
I am running intrepid, but i am no longer running these scripts.

Although I do suspect these scripts still increase the launch speed, it's the
wrong type of solution.
Likely the XML parser should either be optimized, or these programs shouldn't
use huge XML files as a sort of a poor-man's-database. (what's wrong with
sqllite?)

So, i agree that it's better to close this bug.

Re: [Bug 261018] Re: Dell XPS 1330 microphone not sensitive enough

2008-10-22 Thread mabawsa
I am running intrepid and digital control is there if I run:

alsamixer -Dhw

I also have this bug (ie microphone volume is low with the digital
sensitivity set to high) in Hardy on my XPS M1530, and there's no 20db
boost, but I assumed that was because the audio chip doesn't support it.

The audio output is also low - I have to set master, PCM, and front to
 max to hear anything.

 I have this audio controller:

280534 is a slightly different issue - the digital sensitivity control
 doesn't even appear in Intrepid.

I'm not sure particularly where the problem is in authatieventsd.sh? It
looks like it will check the xdm/kdm location and then fall back to the

Does this failure ONLY happen with KDM then? Is something particularly
wrong with the KDM location that is checked?

[Bug 279782] Re: Cannot start or configure video driver on live CD: Presario F700 using NVIDIA GeForce 7000M

2008-10-22 Thread ihtarlik
I downloaded the NVidia driver from
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_177.80.html, killed the
running X server, installed the driver, and ran 'startx'. I mean, while
we're using proprietary binary drivers and not worrying about packages
(because it's just a livecd), why not splurge? Besides, the NVidia
drivers will compile themselves against any recent kernel version and
then autoconfigure Xorg. It doesn't get any easier than that.

[Bug 272896] Re: intrepid - after upgrade to kernel 2.6.27 i cannot upgrade nor i can navigate internet

2008-10-22 Thread Aldo Maggi
the problem is being addressed upstream (kernel.org, see please
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11721) so i think that in few days
it is solved there and ubuntu developpers will follow through.
yesterday i was given a patch to apply to the kernel source and after having
compiled the 2.6.27.2 kernel the problem had disappeared, so either you wait a
few days or you can compile yourself in order to test the patch in your
environment (it would be useful, i think).
if you want to follow this second option, download the kernel source
http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.27.2.tar.bz2 , untar it,
apply the patch i attach to this message and compile and install the new kernel.

let me know if the new kernel solves your issue.
i assume you know how to patch and compile a kernel, if not let me know.

[Bug 239774] Re: Subtotal function not summing correct when using autofilter

2008-10-22 Thread maansson
Hi Chris,

I can confirm that your described solution solved the problem.

I'm sure that your suggested fix did not work when I submitted the bug
also because I was able to reconstruct the error in the example I
attached (which is not my original file).

Is it possible that another update has corrected the bug?

- and thanks!

Best regards,

Troels
