Adding me too for this. I have exhausted all attempts to find what
system process is continuously writing (100% of the time) to my disk on
my System76 laptop. Without blktrace working I am sunk. The problem
started when I did a fresh install of Feisty so reinstalling won't fix
the issue.

We are also having this problem in rezound on Feisty on every machine we
have tried. It crashes as soon as you try to record with a segfault.
Trying to compile rezound from source results in the same exact issue.
My guess is that one of the dependencies of rezound is a newer version
in Feisty and

About ftp urls : gnome-open freezes on them (does'nt do anything but does'nt
terminate either), evolution freezes when clicking on an ftp:// links in an
email, nautilus can't open ftp folders anymore, etc.

Unfortunately, just before upgrading to Feisty I replaced my framebuffer
capture card with a hardware encoding card (bt878-based card to a WinTV
PVR 500), so I can no longer reproduce this problem. (The mpeg-2 files
produced by the PVR card are obviously controlled by the hardware
encoder.)

1. When the screen is black, can you still see the mouse arrow?
2. Can you switch to the console? To see if you can, use Ctl-Alt-F3 to bring
up tty3.
3. If you can get to a console, log in and issue the shutdown command, like

cached and/or buffered, so it's working the way it's supposed to do.
