I've encountered similar results on Ubuntu and Debian as well.

I'm having the same problem with jaunty with a HD 3200, X starts black.
I've made sure all possible traces of fglrx are removed, and also purged
and re-installed xserver core, any ati/radeon drivers, and libgl1 mesa
and dri.

The only difference you will note, is that you will not see the apple logo on

well, all this works when the desktop manager is working as expected -
which more often than not, it doesnt. I have added xfdesktop in the auto
start applications, but still it doesn't work,
there is no wallpaper display, I have to add it everytime - explicitly.
Sometimes the background is blue,
and no i am not running compiz because of the above issues. I used to
run compiz on hardy and eft, i did not face any issues with it on the

I suggest you to reinstall seamonkey from synaptic.
Also if you use any addons take a look at description. For example mnenhy on
mozilla.org
does not work well with seamonkey 1.1.12 but version 0.7.6 works well.

freezes. After program restart, it tells to be already connected to a
MTP-Player although there is no player displayed in the menu. I am

I had a problem for the longest time resolving a resolution issue with
Ubuntu on a Gateway MX3225 laptop. The laptop uses a Via chipset for
graphics. I couldn't seem to get the openchrome drivers working at all
through the traditional methods. I am running Ubuntu 8.10,
Yes, I did, however I am using a different video card than you are,
though we are using the same driver. It is possible the bug only
appears on your video card. The report is still open and available for
others to confirm.
