When I attempt to modify the screen resolution and I click on apply,
Nvidia-settings hangs up and a popup windows say that it can't parse the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Update ... I installed ATI Catalyst 9-10(8.661) on a fresh install of
Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Release Candidate. The driver installed well but
during the driver installation a xorg.conf has been created by the ATI
Catalyst installer(because there was no xorg.conf file present in
/etc/X11 folder) and

I solved problem changing HAL configuration. I modified the file
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-x11-input.fdi in Ubuntu 9.10
changing the mouse configuration section with these lines:
match key=info.capabilities contains=input.mouse
merge key=input.device
I am using a Thinkpad X61T. There is a delay between the stylus movement
and the line drawn with Xournal for example. It makes it difficult to
draw something decently too.
