Also after logging out from current session, all further gdm screens were lacking keyboard and mouse until I ran: sudo dpkg-reconfigure --terse hal Which didn't ask any questions, just restarted hal. After which further X sessions were once again able to access keyboard and mouse. Go figure.

On upgrading today from 8.04 (Kubuntu) directly to 9.10 (Kubuntu alternate install i386) I have the same problem. Nvidia driver was working correctly pre-upgrade, but the kernel module now won't load. NV works. I've tried the 2 most recent drivers recommended by envyng, with the same result.
