I agree, it would be nice to get this fixed. Let the driver fallback to
shadowfb-technique if DRI-init fails, I'm sure that would help a lot.
Guest sessions are next to unusable right now. The strange thing is I
remember seeing patches upstream that were meant to revert to non-EXA
acceleration
KMS=Kernel modesetting which you have to enable by passing modeset=1
to radeon kernel module. KMS driver fixes the bug and the commit you
think about is for KMS case. KMS is still under heavy development and
getting it to working state requires sometimes quite a lot of tweaking
depending of hw.
I checked again with lucid, for unknown reasons I do not have the
/dev/dri/card0 , and /dev/card0 does not exist too

I was doing a bit more research before a reinstall. ld-2.10.1.so is
provided by libc6, for what it's worth. I think I'll try a dist-upgrade
first. Maybe something got solved between Karmic and Lucid, and it
could be in the Alpha. If that doesn't work I'll try a full reinstall.

I tired KMS and can confirm that it seems to resolve this issue, however
it currently comes with it's own problems, I’m sure this is because it’s
still under heavy development, the most annoying of which was the lack

default grub but no change. With compositing video playback terrible

The performance
I was noticing that whenever I launched certain composite-extension
binaries it would default to software only rendering. I confirmed that
my xorg.conf has the following:

issues on my machine with video problems. I checked to fix the

Firefox will not be using system xulrunner in Lucid, according to this spec
(marked Essential):
