I also thought that reason was unsupported hardware.
However, as I mentioned, pointer begins to flicker only after some application
changes cursor to animated one.
Before that mouse cursor is very smooth and behaves without any glitches.
So it looks like there is bug or problem that is triggered
I solved my problem by switching to gdm and upgrading to Nvidia 304.34.

This has nothing to do with NVidia. I have an Intel 4500 GMA. I think
I've finally reached the end of my rope with Ubuntu. Just when it's
working for you, they break it. Unity worked very well on my ACER 1410
Phenom II x6, Radeon 5870 / Nvidia 450 - crashed on 12.04 and 12.10.
Since i've disabled and uninstalled flash i've got a 2 weeks of uptime.

I just wanted to add that I had the same problem for a while so I
started checking the temp every 10 mins or so and it was solid at 62-65C
with a full load. I deduced the only time I had issues with it
overheating was when the screensaver was on. I turned it off and set
the display to turn off
I added on snap shot of what the 3D screen looks like. Totally unusable.

I have a lenovo L520, with 12.04 32-bit release. I have an intel graphic
card, so it has nothing to do with NVIDIA !
Happens with Unity, Unity 2D, Gnome classic (and new variants). It ONLY
HAPPENS when I
I have an Asus UX32VD with nvidia/intel hd4000 graphics, and I have
tried several kernels from 3.5.x - 3.6-rc1 (both on Ubuntu 12.04 and
12.10), and everytime I get a black wallpaper after I open the lid after
suspend to ram.
Just setting the wallpaper manually again will make it appear as usual,
yaroslav: could you try reverting the synaptics driver to, say,
1.5.99.902 or .903 and test if you can reproduce the crash? A similar
crash has been filed on ubuntu, and there it was discovered that
reverting to that version stopped the crashes.
