-input-evdev-2.7.0-20-g5af11b6, and when multitouch isn't enabled, the
core state problem is gone. The autoconf script doesn't detect XI22 on
Precise because the X.org version is too old, so MT isn't enabled by
default.

Three terminal icons is too much, Ubuntu ships with only one tool per
task. Also, the new xterm icon still ugly, I know that it is subjective
but asking about this icons to 9 people around me (3 developers) I got
this:
* 9 in 9 think that it is *very* ugly (both, new and old)
* 8 in 9 ask why
There are 3 icons for Libreoffice on that screenshot.
Each application (xterm, xterm-dev) gets exactly one icon.
You won't be installed xterm-dev; the screenshot merely shows things
side-by-side.
The last comment is odd, since the color scheme of the Terminal icon isn't
like the other icons.

Yep, was a lot easier than I thought to be honest I was only originally
intending to look for the cause out of interest as it was annoying me so
much.
From a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 (tested in a VM) the following
sequence of commands will download, patch and install the updated
driver.

Interestingly I also have this problem, but with an nVidia card (NVIDIA
Coporation GT215 Quadro FX 880M rev a2) in my Thinkpad, using the

ok, in my case it seems to have indeed been a specific application. I killed it
- CPU usage was back to normal. Memory was not freed though. I am not sure if
this application hasn't been updated between 11.10 and 12.04, so I cannot say

it only after computer going to sleep and back.

I can confirm that the workaround in #35 works! I just had to add that line to
the Device section of xorg.conf where the nvidia card is configured (at first I
thougth it should be in the input section but it seems that the problem is more

nvidia-graphics-drivers needs to provide separate packages

When I boot the 12.10 beta 2 on my (test) system the screen is totally messed
up. I cannot read anything.
After about 10 minutes I get console output on the upper left of my screen,
this tells me that nouveau cannot find a native mode.
