occurred after I installed ubuntu-desktop, configured GDM to auto-login
and disable Wayland, rebooted, and finally set the display timeout to 1
second.

Same issues here. I have a HP probook 6550b. Two days ago I did a fresh
install of Ubuntu 12.04. During the first day, nothing was unstable. The
problems seem to begin after I installed cairo-dock. I have disabled
cairo-dock, and since my system seem to run again stable. Perhaps this

I was getting the crash on Jaunty using evtouch with HAL and it stopped
happening when I turned off 3 button emulation.

Shot in the dark - is KMS enabled? Tried booting with nomodeset if so?
That should at least allow you to switch to a VT.

On karmic with an i945:
OpenGL applications and games stutter in a strange way. I'll see a few
frames at full motion, and then a very short pause. A few more full
frames, then another pause. Repeat. This happens two to three time
I've noticed low performance since the .31 kernel series (well, once I
got it to work without flickering). The .30 kernels all are very fast
for my i945.
Could this be related to #382017?
