However when resuming from standby, occasionally the touchpad will stop

This affects me too - Ubuntu MATE 20.04, Lenovo T495 (so AMD

Boots fine with power supply connected, but running from battery, laptop

This appears to be quite an old issue with Optimus graphics. For me the
workaround was to pass specific kernel parameters at boot time to inhibit acpi
control of the backlight but allow intel_backlight control

Garbled display on 14.04 with ATI Radeon HD 77
Just built 3.14.1.
Same error occured.
Traced it down to the dkms module of fglrx.
in /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/13.350.1/build/
I ran the make.sh script manually. As it was 'currently' in 3.11 kernel - it
did not apply the patch 'buildfix_kernel_3.14.patch' as the patch looks to see
if the 'current'
Just built 3.13.11 successfully and a previous failed attempt with same
error.
Easy fix: ran
#sudo apt-get -f install
This removed fglrx-updates and installed fglrx
A simple:
#sudo service lightdm restart
and everything came up perfectly.
I will now retry with 3.14.1

lightdm login manager starts and all appears ok - no errors at all.
Then, once I input my password and click Log in > - nothing.

As far as I know, this is still an issue on Precise, but since I've now
upgrade to Quantal, I can't test. And the bug is resolved in Quantal. I

debugging output so I wasn't aware of any segmentation fault but I know
that I was booting by default into a black screen, and I had to but into
one of the back-up kernels that grub keeps handy and run ppa-purge.

For me and everyone else with a legacy radeon card, the loss of fglrx is
much, much, much worse than not having whatever little subtle
improvements that there were from 1.12 to 1.13. Until AMD updates its
driver, I would say that the

has a legacy ATI chip (that is, a lot of people). If ATI won't fix this,
then a PPA ought to be set up to allow the Xserver to be safely

Yes, I have always read that you should purge the driver first before
installing a newer version. You can easily remove fglrx with this command-
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev*
After you run this install the new driver then reboot and hopefully you'll boot

Just to check I installed 11.10 and 12.04 in two seperate partions and
with both of them the open source radeon driver is displaying and

I also had this problem with an x201s. The display on the laptop alone
was fine, but on attempting to plug in an external display, both
displays go black. I downgraded my linux kernel from 2.6.38-9 to
2.6.35-22-generic from the maverick repositories and this seems to have
fixed the problem.

I should add, if you still can't even see the Unity interface on your
radeon, please reopen this bug.
I don't want to close it for no reason, but if you can use unity and are
suffering now from medium-level rendering bugs, having those as separate
bugs is just easier to handle for us, thanks!

Could you please try adding UNITY_PANEL_INDICATORS_SKIP="all" to
/etc/environment and restart and login to unity session. I want to see
if the issue still happens if there are no indicators.
Also, please update to very latest maverick (as of today) with unity
0.2.28 and the latest Xorg.

This only seems to effect applications that use clutter-gtk, those that
call clutter directly (i.e. clutter_stage_get_default) don't have any
issues.
The stage does draw once, but after that the program hangs (gdb just
shows it's waiting on poll()). I'm not sure if it could be something to
