I did some distro hopping with my XPS 15 9575 (BIOS 1.13.0)

Pop!_OS (20.10) and Manjaro (20.2.1) did not have the issue. This leads

I was affected by this bug in 12.04 LTS Precise but in practical terms
fixed it by installing nvidia-304=304.134-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 . Subsequent
security updates to nvidia packages were offered but I ignored them
following comments in this thread that they reintrod

NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache GPU which requires a 304.xx driver.

I was afflicted by a version of this problem after updating 12.04 LTS
Precise via the Update Manager on 20/11/2016. The principal problem is
that the icons on the desktop launchpad became invisible, though
hovering over where I suspected that they were with the mouse did result

I've been installing from the main repositories, but had previously tried using

On Mesa 9.0 and 9.0.2. Intel hardware is not handling
GL_ANY_SAMPLES_PASSED_ARB as it has not been correctly implemented. This
has been corrected in 9.0.3.
