Ran into this while attempting to upgrade to saucy. Digulla's workaround
works.
Need to get this and a lot of other messes cleaned up before other LTS
users start upgrading

I don't think this should be marked "fix released", but "workaround" as the bug
in the title and description is not fixed by downgrading, it is only avoided.

There are several possible duplicates of this bug against different

My opinion is that the i915 module is broken, as blacklisting it

Is anyone else having this bug on a desktop PC?
I was able to work around it by blacklisting i915 and using only my add-

If you have a destkop pc, and an add-on gpu (brand should be irrelevant)
could you try this?

I do wish there were a better way, but having tried -27-42, 43, 44,
several upstream kernels, adding "i915.i915_enable_rc6=0",
"i915.i915_enable_fbc=0", and "i915.semaphores=1" to grub, etc with no
success whatsoever, I was left without any choice but to give up on the
intel module.

I never use my intel gpu anyway, since I have an nvidia graphics card in

So finally, having had enough of this miserable bug, i blacklisted the
intel gpu.
I blacklisted the i915 module like this, in

blacklist i915
blacklist i915_drm_kms_helper

Questions:
!. What on earth would a bug this serious be marked "Won't fix"?
-the issue clearly exists as evident by this bug report, multiple duplicates,
forum posts and blog entries accross the web
2. Would it work to just blacklist the drm-intel module?
post 91 >It's a Kernel Bug (drm-intel).
Try adding this to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, in the "Device" section:
Option "OnDemandVBlankInterrupts" "True"
Supposedly this is a power-saving function, but I find it also gives me
a nearly tear-free desktop.

I am still having this problem with the latest nvidia drivers.
At nearly every boot nvidia fails to load and gdm tries to run a
failsafe xsession.
Unfortunately, there's nothing of importance in either the xorg or
kernel logs. The kernel log has no mention of any failure at all and

By the way, anyone handy with grub have any idea what 0xf06 means? I'm
