I do wish there were a better way, but having tried -27-42, 43, 44, several upstream kernels, adding "i915.i915_enable_rc6=0", "i915.i915_enable_fbc=0", and "i915.semaphores=1" to grub, etc with no success whatsoever, I was left without any choice but to give up on the intel module.
Indeed, this is not a good idea for intel laptops.
