I just tried the new (10.2) fglrx driver from ati website in my 9.10
Ubuntu and it works well. To be more specific, I can't say, if it was
fixed due to Ubuntu updates or the driver, because of I used the open
source driver last months.
I will test it in Lucid with ubuntu fglrx driver later on.
This is the first good news I've heard on this topic in many moons!
I'm running Intrepid 8.10, with local kernel mods (PAPI) that I don't want to
mess with
at present, so upgrading the kernel at this juncture is not something I want to
do,

Actually that is the problem with Linux generally and the point I believe
Ubuntu can push the opensource world a big step ahead. The manufacturers need a

I totally share your excitement and of course I agree with you.

Ivos,
I am reading the thread. I'm in the same situation you are, and appreciate
your comments. Now, when I upgrade to Karmic, I will know what to expect. I
am just another user, not a developer.
I share your frustration, and I very much appreciate knowing what's

I also share this frustration. Perhaps someone from ATI can give some
indication of when/if they plan
to repair this problem, If they don't, then we can all remove ATI (and AMD)

I am going to try to point this out to the folks at Theinquirer and Theregister

Just stop using those fraking fglrx drivers. AMD/ATI won't fix them...and
ubuntu devs can't do anything for you in this case !
You can complain against AMD/ATI directly ;)
