This issue is still valid IMHO. I was only able to fix it by doing the
following hack:
* renaming /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so to

I updated my sons computer to oneiric from natty yesterday so that he
could do some alpha testing and ran into the same problem (i.e. it was
using nouveau after the upgrade, but was working fine with nvidia-

I received the advice about blacklisting the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
driver in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf , from yofel at ubuntu+1 # on
irc.freenode.org . I did this at the tty as root in the recovery

I'm still having this problem, and I'm positive that I have the latest

The solution for me was to blacklist nouveau in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. But because this entry was already in
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf I think this file don't get
loaded.
