I thought this to be the case as well, but, upon selecting WPA personal,
AES was still an option on my router...so I took it. I was feeling
pretty proud of myself too, being the only wireless network in my

Another vote here for ext3. It's been around for long enough to be

Sounds useful. Any idea what it's called or where I might find it? (Or
will it be available as part of the release?)

When I moved from Windows to Ubuntu, I did some research and solicited
advice/suggestions and eventually settled on ext3. It appeared to be
the most reliable choice. If I ever do decide to go back to Windows,
I'm guessing it would also be time to buy a larger drive anyway -- so

Modern linux installs can handle read/write on NTFS but I highly suggest
you use ext3 for maximum future-proofing and reliability.
For the price of a NAS box, you can simply get a cheap used PC which
will be faster and easier to work with.

Strike FAT32 ...won't support a drive that large.
Linux is much better these days for mounting NTFS drives.

In all the posts on this page, replace references to "slimserver" with

if SC7 will still respond to a "slimserver stop/start/restart" command

Strictly speaking, WPA-AES is not supported as it's not a standard.
WPA2-AES is. It's kind of a fluke that WPA-AES works here?

The mplayer.sh is included in the new squeezecenter download at
usr/share/squeezecenter/plugins/Alien/bin. I would guess if you put a
bin/mplayer file back in the sqcntr folder you will cause problems. You
don't need the bin folder at the squeezecenter level.

You will have to have Linux mount the drive on your XP box with iTunes.
I did this with Solaris and XP and it worked fairly well until my wife
started buying DRM infested music...
What you'll need to do is share the iTunes folder on your XP box then
use smbmount from the Ubuntu box to mount it.
Perhaps I spoke to soon: just upgraded to the latest SC7 nightly and
AlienBBC is gone again. Maybe I need to wait for the next version of
