I have one Squeezebox Classic and two PCP players, one with a Hifiberry
DAC+ pro and the official 7" screen and one with a 4.3" touchscreen and
a Hifiberry AMP2. I also occasionally use Squeezeplayer on my phone and
tablet.
When I add a station to my favorites list with my old Squeezebox
classic
Can you give some examples of stations that exhibit this problem and how
you access them ... and what happens if you search for those stations
again?

I try unsuccessfully to run LMS on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ with Raspbian
Buster Lite. The music files are stored on an NTFS external hard drive.
(I do not want to use piCorePlayer or Max2Play because the Raspberry Pi
must host other applications than LMS.)

So I've set up a Raspberry pi with PiCore, and it boots fine and offers
a web page, which I was able to use to configure SqueezeLite to talk to
my custom squeeze server. Kudos, this seems like a well-thought-out web
interface.
I wasn't shocked to discover SqueezeLite and my server don't agree on

Yes, it is likely ... On the other hand, the errors that I observe
during the scan in the file /var/log/syslog do not seem related to
metadata.

Perhaps there are two problems:
The -server.log- indicates some kind of issue when full text scanning.
It might be worth stopping LMS and deleting
-/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/library.db-. Then restart and try

It appears that you can add to the favourites list in two ways:
1) go to "my apps" - select the appropriate app e.g. "TuneIn" - select
the station you want by long pressing on the name - in the popup select

Your best bet might be to install LMS somewhere in your network and then
turn on slimproto debugging and hook up a Squeezelite to it to see what
is going on - or run Squeezelite with debugging turned on since it does
dump out quite a lot of slimproto info as it goes.

The hifiberry Digi+ has Toslink output. (also, I've been a happy user

Try adding locale=fr_FR.UTF-8 to the options in fstab
Things to check:
Identify what encoding the cue file is in (e.g. with file). If it isn't
UTF-8, convert it with e.g. iconv and try with this file.
Make sure you're using a UTF-8 capable terminal (e.g. putty need to be
configured for it iirc),
