I would recommend VortexBox although any Linux distro would do. The
advantage of VortexBox is it's designed to be an audio centric linux
distro and has LMS pre-installed. If your worried about the future you
could keep a copy of the LMS source tar ball. That way you could build
it for any future L

I'm still trying to figure out what's going on here. I searched my F11
box for libssp and I can't find it. So it seems like libssp wasn't
needed before. Also I don't get that error on my version of SqueezeBox
Server running on F14 so it seems libssp is not really required
installed to use my rpm on Fedora 14 it has all
the perl modules built in.

I have never tested VortexBox on that hardware. I'm not sure it's
compatible. It should work on almost anything. We use a text based
install not xwindows to make sure it works with almost any monitor.

I just tried it with squeezeboxserver-7.4.1-0.1.28825. Exactly the same
thing happens SBS becomes unresponsive when I switch from streaming to
playing a FLAC. So it seems like 7.4.1 will not fix the problem.

TFS drive to VortexBox but it's not for the faint of
heart. There are a few tricky problems. I always tell new users to
attach an NTFS drive to a windows box and copy the files over the
network.
This works every time and is much easier.

Your right Linux should be able to run on an i386 processor. I haven't
used anything less then a i586 for the past 15 years and Fedora doesn't
support anything less then an i586 by default but maybe there is an i386
kernel for Fedora someplace. I'll take a look.

rpm are compressed with CPIO. You can extract them using Linux. The easy
way to look inside one it to use 7zip (I run it under windows) it can
decompress any compressed file including rpms.
If you post this script or how to get the RPM. I would be interested in
taking a look at it.

I would recommend VortexBox. Most of the things you need are already set
up. Samba is already working, mplayer is already set up to work with
AlienBBC. You just install the iso and you done.

drives.

If you new to Linux you might want to try VortexBox. It will replace the
Ubuntu install you already have but it will configure everything for
