It did not read the playlist folder for some reason, but squeezebox is
running in Ubuntu.
This is further along than I have ever made it with Ubuntu.

That looks like I would be a bit too far in over my head. Maybe if I
can learn more about Linux first.
I'm a little bummed, but this is as close as I have ever been to
getting a Linux distro to do everything I have needed.

So I have to mount the partition, even though I can access it, and read
files off it when I navigate through the folders outside of the
squeezeserver software?

Thank You, that did it.
Now I have to review how to mount a partition. Every distro I have
tried seems to act a little differently. The last two I installed
mounted the 2nd hard drive automatically. Debian apparently did not.

unmount it automatically.

ounter implements an almost complete SunOS
style automounter under Linux. Automounter version 4
(autofs4) has to be enabled when compiling the kernel.
Debian packaged kernels have it enabled.
This is what you are referring to? Is it something I configure once it
is installed?

links to music stored on the external, are broken. All links to music
that is stored on internal drives, are fine.
I can play all my files, both stored internally or externally fine.
Seems really weird to me.
Did I explain that any better?

I don't think my read/write access is a problem, as all the links are
on this ext drive (ntfs).
Any ideas?
I try to always turn off the external drive when I turn off the PC.

Someone in the LinuxMint forum suggested:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and then paste the URL from SS website.
That worked perfectly.

download page to third party repositories in synaptic, and synaptic has
done the rest.

can see the SD download page is saying that the link is for
6.5.2, but what I get installed is 6.3.0.

I have not had my SB that long, but I
would guess that while in XP I was able to play ALAC with SB.

cleaned up. I could add a shortcut to the other music folders,
but then would have to slog through everything again to make playlists.

XP disc management will not allow me to format a 5th partition on this
drive. I am hoping I can format it with the Ubuntu installer, but
assuming that I will not have the option of formating fat32 with the
Linux installer. Am I wrong about that?
