Hi Matthias..
Thx for your input..
I am not sure how to make it happen..
I didnt mean though that it would be more difficult with just one image..
only less intuitive..
Hmm just brainstorming.. but if one just sets *= in 2nd image material...?,
and apply then with the Map2Obj Tool in a 2nd go.
too.
I've never tried it :-?

Hi Matthias..
This is cool stuff, if I am not totally wrong I have seen you done this
before..(or maybe it was the same prj..)
Thx for sharing this, it gives a nice and really cool resu
OFT was only an animation test, how fast my
machine computes things like this, same as the nailboard-test.

Just a thought..
Could it be made working in also the 3rd dimension.. with spheres in also

Here's an idea to get something similar through VSL and displacement:
- use Map2Obj to assign texture or procedural values to a user channel,
animate if wanted
- in a VSL shader, read this channel and use it to modify Bump Height
- apply to SDS or nurbs spheres with suitable max displacement
O
Nearly the same as test-2.
If you need a howto, feel free to ask ;-)
In this unfinished scene a custom channel is evaluated.
The evaluated data are tranferred via constraint to the
objects, and then some little script snippets are transferring
the data to the rotation, scale and or rotation.

Hi Mark,
glad to hear this :-)
Maybe you can have a look at the "Field evaluator" files, too.
Matthias
Matthias,
After a few attempts I got it working!
Feeling tempted to learn JS scripting... assuming it will still be relevant
in V6! (I got a scripting trauma after learning V3 RPL)
Here's an idea to get something similar through VSL and displacement:
- use Map2Obj to assign texture or procedu
Use it like this:
1. Create a Object or level with objects
2. Create 3 Tags as seen on the attached tags image (all as "Float" with value
"1")
(Note: The Tags will give a better and animatable control, if the script is
assigned)
3 Open the scripts tab and assign the script below, end of mai
Channels are evaluated at rendertime,
if I'm right, that's the problem.
If the "field-evaluator" is working: No Problem ;-)
But the field evaluator is buggy, since v4.5 :-(
(One of my favourite tools)
Maybe it's working again in v6 :-?

The animation is done with 2 different greyscale
images. The images color is mapped in animation
recording mode to the spheres via Map2object.
The script is a simple "get color" ->"Set Scale"
I'll share a file if you like :-)
Matthias
Yes please, it really surprised me the whole thing wo
Uuuups forgotten to say, at the moment it's not
possible to access user defined channels via JS,
if I'm right :-?
Matthias
I was hoping you or Zaug had solved that by now ;)
Weird, isn't this part of the data structure like everything else...
apparently not.

Aah, brilliant stuff! Care to elaborate a bit? The script is scaling the
spheres, using each sphere's individual animated scale channel as input??

Mark,
Great to hear it is working! We (Timo and I) are looking into reading
custom channels; but not much progress, yet.
Thankz for compliment; much more to come with this one : )

Hi all,
In the meantime I tried the idea of using a custom channel to assign
individual properties to
