Preston, I experienced exactly the same when I in early January this year installed LibreO3.4.5 that at that moment was said to be the latest stable version. Yesterday I upgraded to LO-3.4.6 because there, according to this mailing list, seem to be too much problems with LO-3.5.x versions.

I have used OCRAD to scanacontract to text for writer but Tesseract seems to get better results. I found that PDFs produced from MSO I cannot edit, some I can't even print properly. Must be the format they are produced in. Interesting articles
