I have direct connection to the Operator's SMSC.
This operator uses TLV ( sar ) in conjunction with UDH for message
concatenation.
When Kannel gets long message from SMSC, it’s droped with error “SMPP[]:

Can I use Kannel with GSM modem as a SMSC for mobile phones? What I like
to do is install Kannel, use a GSM modem that has got MSISDN +1222333
for example, then configure my mobile phone's SMSC Service Center number to
+1222333. So when ever I sent text messages to any recipient,
I manage it, currently 6 kannel instances and no problem at all. Just configure
the proper port for each config.

Whenever I connect to any AT SMSC, I get the following error in the
bearerbox log:
INFO: AT2[51x]: AT SMSC successfully opened.
ERROR: AT2[51x]: Generic error: ERROR
I have tested this specific modem for AT commands over a raw serial port,
and it works perfectly well.
Can this error be ignored

Add AT+CMEE=2 (or 1) to your modem int string to get more verbose errors.
Post logs with full relevant lines as well as some lines before and
after. Posted errors with no pre/post lines does means nothing.

I did use rawtcp connection to a series of modems using a terminal server.
Indeed you need to configure your raw connection in kannel but also need to
define modem config. I don't know if 'auto' will work with your modem
unless you add an entry for it.
