Flicker on a CRT monitor is often a bad solder joint or a loose connector that can heal itself as the temperature goes up. If it's more than that I agree with Glen. One test for loose things is to give the monitor a good whack with the palm of your hand while it's flickering. If things change

Actually some PCs and the MacBooks have hibernate mode or suspend-to- disk, which RAM is written out, which can go on indefinitely if battery is run down. Some PowerMacs have deep sleep mode where the fans shut off, but it depends on what you have installed in the slots. I don't know if this was
