Dear Mattcintosh,
I just joined the vintage group because I have a long-term problem that,
judging by your email, you might know how to solve (though I can't really
tell because, frankly, I don't know what NAS or AFP or most other computer
terms mean, for which I apologize in advance).
Anyway, I
Find a NAS that supports AFP. I bought one a couple years ago for
about $100 and it has a 120 gig drive in it. It supports Windows, Mac,
Linux & FTP. Some other ones will even do http. As for this unit, it
will show up in the chooser and you can log into it from pretty much
every machine. It just
Well actually I have a PowerBook 230 in a DuoDock... Does that make a
difference?

Ah, it looks like it is possible with 7.6.1. My Duo can run 7.6.1, but
I am running out of disk space, and I don't know if it would fit...
Also, I have 7.6.1 on CD, and well the Duo doesn't have a CD drive.
There are a few things I could try. Thanks for that link, looks like
it will be hel
Yes it's possible.
Here's instructions and screenshots:

It's probably likely that you don't have all the most updated software
on your System 7 machine.

Ah, that explains it. But that doesn't explain why I can't connect to
my iMac as a registered user. I guess the question I should be asking
is, is that possible? I would like to be able to transfer files back
and forth, and I don't think that my public folder will do... Anyways,
thanks for

Well, I set up all that (I also realized I was running 7.5.0 not 7.5.5
heh) and they still don't seem to want to talk... I set up the TCP/IP
on the Duo, and the FileSharing is on, AppleTalk is set up to use
Ethernet... I can't help feeling I'm missing something. What is the
purpose of the
Thanks, I'll try that. Luckily I have my beige minitower... that
thing's great for transferring files to the older Macs.

The TCP/IP and AppleTalk cps are from Open Transport. MacTCP and
Network cps are "Classic" n
well OK one more thing... In OS9 there's a TCP/IP control panel, is
there anywhere to get a plugin for System 7? I did some googleing but

Also, what are AppleTalk zones and how do I make one from my iMac? My
Duo keeps saying there are no zones on the network when I click on the
Ethernet icon in the Network control panel. I've gotten this to work
between 7.0, 7.1 and 7.5 to OS9, but the control panels are more
similar.

Is it possible? I have my iMac running 10.5.6 connected to a Duo Dock
(with NuBus ethernet card) running System 7.5.5. I have gone into the
Network control panel, and switched the AppleTalk network to Ethernet.
I also have Appletalk and file sharing turned on. On my iMac, I have
