When I get a phone call, before I do a 2 finger double tap to answer the call, I just do a 3 finger double tap to turn speech off so even if you do get an alert VO won't be on to read it to you. Just remember after the call is over to do the 3 finger double tap to turn speech back on. HTH

Alan, if you don't necessarily want a case with an on board charger, you might want to consider an external charger like the Incredicharge. I can charge my phone for several times on a single charge. I can also use my phone while it's charging on the Incredicharge. It has two USB connections

It does seem that a triple press of the home key would be the simplest and easiest solution. You could turn VO on to enter numbers and off when you are just talking. Probably get texts and some other things but as some have pointed out these annoyances are necessities to some. The good thing a
