Hi Paul, you already got an answer on the when. As for the how, when you open the standard Music app in iOS 8.4, you'll see a screen pop up asking you if you'd like to sign up for Apple Music. If you sign up, you'll have to tell Apple which plan you want, the individual plan or the family plan.

I believe you can turn split screen mode off in settings. Or at least you can in the iPad Air. I kind of like it once I got use to using it. The list of messages in the email program for example show the list of messages in the left hand window and the messages one by one in the right window.
