The big problem for me is the battery drain. Some folks say it does not really
drain their battery but it significantly drains the battery on my iPhone 5S.
Typically from night to morning my phone will go from 100 percent to 99% or
even 100%. However, if I forget to do the work around after
Considering that Apple will be releasing Siri always on in iOS 8 (as announced
in WWDC), this bug will only last two to three more months. It is entirely
possible that VO is occasionally activating some embedded code currently.
Again, the new announced feature will most probably clear this

I forget to perform the work around. :) I am not expecting this bug to persist
forever. What is Siri always?

Siri always on means that you can say the phrase hey siri and it will
activate when the device is plugged in. This is according to WWDC anyway.

I'm a little bit confused as to how that feature might help us with this bug.
Maybe it's because I don't really understand why triggering Siri temporarily
fixes the bug, until dictation is used again. Would you mind explaining this a
little bit more?
Thanks,

Basically, battery drain increases when more processes are active on the
device. Some processes draw significant amounts of power. If the process does
not release, power continues to be drawn to maintain the process.
There has been speculation that power is being drawn to keep the mic open.
What a bummer that they did not fix this bug. If i accidentally forget to ask
siri for the current temperature after using dictation from an edit field my
battery drains very very quickly. I understand that someone here explained how
to tell if the bug is present is by noticing the volume

Just because a bug is known does not, in any way, mean the company knows what
is causing the bug. Much of the time, bugs are caused by completely unrelated

Agreed. I rarely expect any software developer to be able to fix every problem.

Hi all
The subject pretty much says it. I just tested on my iPhone5, running iOS7.1.2,
and the dictation bug is still present. So, remember to play media or activate
Siri after dictating, or you might have severe battery drain.

Thanks for this, admitedly, I'm a bit disappointed that Apple did not

It's easy to tell if you use bluetooth headphones when dictating, at least the
ones I use. When the mic is open, sound quality drops to that of a phone call
instead of the usual full quality. Normally, once dictation is over, sounds,
including VO speech, return to normal. With this bug, though,
how would a person know, if there microphone was still active?
