Mattias, This behaviour is normally caused by the server computer being configured with too large an MTU for the network, which is sometimes the case when running over a VPN. Mouse & keyboard events get to the server OK because they are small amounts of data, and so much much smaller than the MTU

Most likely you are using VPN and MTU is too large. Lower MTU on your VPN adapter to 1300 which should be safe. If you want more performance you need to use trial and error to select the best MTU that works. Could take you a few hours because every time you change MTU you need to reboot. Thank

Sometimes on a few machines here there appears to be no video coming across. I do connect to the machine and authenticate however the screen is black and the mouse causes trails on the screen. Has anyone else come across this problem? That was the original. basically i think it might come down

The only problem with all of this is that I am not using a VPN. This is simply on the same LAN. I guess the only differences is the OS as well as perhaps the version of VNC 3 vs. 4. Although It is not a constant thing. As in that half of the machines have 3 and half have 4 and half are 2000 sp4

Try looking for support of "VPN Pass thru" on the router. Otherwise I would look into general vpn issues with your router and the particular type of vpn client you are using googleing around might get you started. If you need some more help i can help with vnc but i dont do much vpn work. --Ange
