Thanks Ronni,

G'day all WAMUGGERS.
All set for another year? Have you set up your iCal to tell when all the
monthly meetings are? I have and it tells me that the first WAMUG monthly
meeting is this Tuesday, 1st February 2011.
We'll start, as usual, with the question and answer session and then we'll have

Aren't you glad you have a Mac and can just regard this as a curiosity?

Many thanks Peter.
I never do any repairs on my own, the nearest one to me is Next Byte on Stiling
Highway. Was thinking of taking it to the Perth Apple store, but dont think
they do repairs there...
Worse comes to the worst, ill just have to replace ol' trusty.

Hi David,
I wonder if it's an Applie issue as I have a Macbook pro 17 only 20 months old
and the DVD drive is faulty . It will read some Programs but not DVD's that
have had anything burnt to them. My local Apple store recommended that I buy a
$90 DVD burner instead of replacing the faulty
Hi Lynn,
Firstly, I would suggest you don’t keep trying to boot-up MacBook. Shut it down
and leave it alone until you can get the Data off the Hard Drive.
The more you try to use the Hard Drive the less chance you have of being able
to recover the Data.
Secondly: Looking back through WAMUG
Apple certainly seems the common link Kaye. In truth most of us don't use the
optical drive very often and they don't even have them in the ipads etc, good
point about external burners if they are that cheap, probably also that would
be better use of my time than salvaging burners. But I can't
Hi Ronni
Many thanks for this info.
Having read the article:
This program covers affected MacBook models for 3 years from their original
date of purchase or until August 15, 2010 whichever provides longer coverage
Will mention this to the repair centre and see what they say.
Hi Lynn,
Its important to get your Data off the Hard Drive on the MacBook (if possible).
If you have another Mac (which I presume you do as you are sending emails to
WAMUG list).
And an external FW Drive (or can get a l of one).
I would suggest you install “Super Duper” or Carbon Copy Cloner” on
Many thanks Ronni!!

(or till when webmail inbox is about to burst server limit) then i download
everything onto the mac.
