Best of luck Rick,
Do you have the Data Rescue 3 Users Guide manual?
If not I can email it to you, it is 3.1MB size.
It will most likely take hours and hours to scan the Trash Folder (you have had
the G4 for many years...lots of trash has been emptied... don't stop it ;-)
After DR3 has
Thanks Rhona,
Yes it could take some time, I have recovered using the check boxes with
destination to an external 2Tb, I don't need the manual because I don't think I
will let this happen again but I do need to know the correct procedure when all
is on the External, will it just be like the
Hi Rick,
Did you locate The 50GB Folder and select 'The Folder' to be recovered to the
external 2TB Drive?
Did you Drag Drop 'The Folder' onto the External 2TB Drive?
If so, it should look the same as the original folder... as it should be the
original folder.
Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Rick,
I just realised, you probably used the 'Deleted Files Scan' - Scan Method.
If that is the case, in Data Rescue 3 the files will be 'Reconstructed Files',
therefore they will be organised by file names and file type.
These results will NOT have their original directory structure and
Anthony,
If nobody has put their hand up I could use it for a rebuild of one I have.

Hi Ken,
I had to search the WAMUG Archives to check what we have already suggested to
you.
Have you tried cleaning the Apple wired mouse; the optical sensor on the
underside of the mouse?
Also Open System Preferences, click on 'Universal Access', select 'Mouse

I'm running 10.7.3 on a 17 MBP which is probably getting a bit aged these

At startup, I have around 50GB of spare hard disk capacity, of a total 250GB

Over the past month o so, what happens is that over around a 2 to 4 day period,
Hi Steven,
Have you checked your RAM usage in Activity Monitor?
Use Activity Monitor to watch your RAM usage. If Free memory falls to the point
where Inactive memory is being released, you may want to consider adding more
RAM to maintain maximum performance.
You can also look at the 'Page
Thanks Ronni.
Have you checked your RAM usage in Activity Monitor?
There's always been adequate RAM for my use, other than the odd occasion when
more would be nice, which no doubt most people run into now and again. I don't
think I've ever bought a Mac without immediately doubling the RAM,
Hi Steven,
You 'might' have some sort of memory leak; but Insufficient RAM and Free Hard
Space do cause the problems you are experiencing.
I'll try to type a fairly short response to your queries. I did post a long
time back to WAMUG explaining 'Real Memory' 'Virtual Memory' in OS X.

I'm with you Ronni, up until:
This number indicates how many times your Mac has run out of available memory
and used your hard drive as virtual RAM. This number should be as low as
possible.
I like the number to be less than 2000 during a full day's use of my Mac.
Others suggest a higher
Steven,
The 'System Memory' part of 'Activity Monitor' is slightly arcane, so to help
you get a better understanding of memory and OS X I have, from several sources,
plagiarised and modified the following. I hope this is clearer than mud:
1 all memory in OS X is 'virtual'. Some of that
Hi Steven,
I understand your confusion, it always confused me ;-) The confusion began in
Leopard...
In OSX Leopard rather than giving a ‘count’ of 'page in' and 'page outs', it
gives a size in GB of the amount of RAM that has been paged in or out.
The numbers are smaller but the same
I have a Samsung ML-2010 Laser Printer which just recently has decided to go on
