I had the same problem with battery consumption on both my Apple
mice. The Apple/Bluetooth mouse seemed to use batteries much more
quickly (a few weeks admittedly) than the old Microsoft/Infrared one
(that lasted months).
After exploring all the possibilities, as a simple solution
haha after saying how good my batteries are going they just run out!! But I
just checked of when I started to use it and its
been just under 9 weeks.

Can you test the actual battery voltage? I think a starting point is
