little SSI) on the site, but getting the time to learn beyond the basics
proves dificult.

I'm interested in this too, as I'm considering a new PC with XP.
What I need to know first is if
Microsoft has to be contacted everytime anything on the machine is
updated, or
just when XP is reinstalled? If so, is this as much hassle as I've read?
What's this? Does this mean when you have to
XP keeps track of your hardware installation. If you make a significant
change, xp requires that you contact MS to see if this constitutes a new
installation requiring a new payment or if you get a waiver for an existing
install. Significant is not clearly defined although there are knowledge

This is one of the gripes I have with the computer industry in general:
if they tell you things like this in advance you could plan for such
eventualities. Instead the consumer does a bunch of time- and

Joseph,
First off don't worry. It sounds worse than it is ;) If you are planning on
getting a prebuilt system w/XP and you aren't an upgrade-pig like me, then you have no
worries. I personally would recommend going with a Dell, as they are good machines,

I agree with Stephen in terms of it not being as bad as it sounds. But

Another consideration with XP is to make sure it has driver support for any

There's a section on the Windows XP website that details peripheral support.
