Regarding the mysql problem it's most likely that your webserver doesn't
have mysql running. If you have telnet/ssh access to the server, try to

I never used Postfix so can't help you with that one.
If you want to give your users ability to access their mail form multiple
machines (like form home as well as office) IMAP is the way to go. Courier-IMAP
is the one I use and I think it does a good job. For webmail squirellmail or
check webhostingtalk.com. There are many offers for VPS servers. I have used one
in the past (forgot the name) but it was about $40 a month.
However, there are some companies offering a full dedicated server now for
around $50-60 a month which is much better than a vps IMO.
