get gdal built via get-maptools.sh after following the howto steps.

Thanks! Been there and done that but could not get xastir's configure to
recognize OpenMotif so I went with LessTif. Looked like others were having
luck with Ubuntu and OpenMotif so I asked ;)
I'll give your page another look tonight and see if I can't get xastir to
build with OM.
