Has anyone had any luck getting the ACT-LABS usb light gun to work with
X-Mame?
I have had trouble getting it to work in X. Although I am not sure how to set
up a device that uses absolute coordinates in the XF86Config. I just thought
that it would work like a mouse, but it doesn't the pointe

That person would be me.
I had "limited" sucess with it, but stopped playing with it do to work

Ok, here's what I did to set it up:
Mandrake detected it automatically:

So I'm configuring Operation Wolf to use the light gun...and I press the
trigger and Xmame ignores it. I tried my mouse, xmame accepts it, and
the trackball as well. Testing the "reload" button (the button on the
side of the gun), Xmame accepts it as button 3 (note - Xmame sees them

I was told I can upgrade to a flat screen monitor at work.
Sounds like a DVI output is the best route. With that in mind, whats the
best PCI video
card to buy that will work best with xmame (intel X11) and a flat screen
and have a DVI output?
any help would be great :)

Normal mouse movement events are relative and the light gun has to be absolute
like a tablet would. I was wondering if you have to set up the xinput

okay, I bought one of the EMS USB2 adapters from jandaman.com. this

Good point. I'm not sure what I can do to get an absolute mode. I'll
look at the Wacom input section and see if I can gleen anything for
that. that could resolve the location problem.

Sometimes, when I recompiled a new kernel, joydev (usb joystick) stopped
working. To fix that I just compiled input, hid, usbcore & joydev as
modules, and made sure they were loaded at boot. (modprobe)

If by "flat screen monitor" you mean "LCD display" then yes, you want DVI or

sounds like a really neat adapter, I'd probably get one if I knew it worked
and if it weren't sold out on the website. :P
It does work, you can order one from here:
