Nick, The LinkSys cable/DSL/router products seem to work well and are affordable. My guess would be that competing products -- NetGear, D-Link, Belkin -- have very similar feature sets.
Just be sure to (1) change the default passphrase of the web-based management console, (2) disallow management of the web-based console from the "WAN", (3) disable "WAN" access to your network, and (4) use their log utility to see who is hitting your box. In the case of step 3, if you want to access your network from the "WAN" side then use the port forwarding feature on case-by-case basis. Lastly, check for firmware upgrades on a regular basis lest you miss an important patch (or new feature). --Noah-- On Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at 07:39 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Finallly getting cable and I was hoping of implementing a home network > of > Xp and 1 dual boot win/linux client running on win 2000 server home > edition. > > I was hoping of setting up a relatively "cheap" secure solution with > remote possibilities, however i wouldnt mind (would you recommend?) > having > a dedicated shitty box for the FW rather than just a FW app (Tiny or > Zone) > running on the main server.?
